A refined campfire

I have been drinking lapsang souching since middle school, and this tea was a discovery of a nice balance between oolong and gentle smoke. This is less "bbq" and more cozy.

This Russian Caravan Tea is Authentic and Excellent

I knew this was the genuine Russian Caravan Tea I was looking for from the moment I 1) opened the package & saw the color & shape of the leaves; the smells wafting up to my nose 2) poured hot water over the leaves & watched them unfurl & release a delightful steamy aroma 3) took a first sip of it's unique, complex, smoky, rich flavor. Thank you

My fave tea of all time

Strong aroma and strong flavor. Stands up out of the cup and slaps you

Very smoky yet rounded

This is an excellent blend to round out the smoky flavor of a standard lapsang. Lapsang flavor still stands out, but the other blended teas provide more character.

Nope

I opened the bag and it was the standard “campfire” smell. I could smell hints of the oolong mixed in and was hopeful it would come through in taste. I was so wrong. It was like drinking liquid smoke. I tried to add honey and it didn’t help enough. I can seem the appeal to a different type of black tea but this is just a loss for me. The other 3 types I purchased were all wonderful so 1 out of 4 is still a win.

Heavily smoked teas like Russian Caravan and Lapsang Souchong are definitely an acquired taste. As someone who loves smoky teas (and smoky scotch too for that matter), I could drink these every day. However, I get that they're not for everyone—their intense, unique flavors can be a bit polarizing.
