What Is Tea Runners?

Tea Runners is the world's finest tea club. Our members receive a curated collection of four of the world's best loose leaf teas, along with tasting notes and brewing instructions, delivered to their door.

We offer a choice of four boxes and a choice of three delivery schedules. All boxes can be customized from 15+ selections we offer every month so you can truly personalize your experience. 

Many of the teas we ship are award-winners from the Global Tea Championship Awards, and almost all others come from these award-winning companies. 

Our buying power gives us the ability to bring you the finest teas for a very affordable cost. We figure if you're going to drink tea, drink the best teas in the world. 

How our subscriptions work

Yes, you can customize any of our 4 boxes.

You can customize your first box by submitted a request within 24 hours of placing your order.

For regular monthly shipments, we send an email on the 25th of every month announcing next month's teas and allow members about a week to submit their customization requests for the following month.

The ship date of your first box is always displayed on our sign up page. In general, your first box will ship within 24 - 48 hrs, Mon-Fri, however there are some exceptions.

Orders placed after the 25th of the month will not ship until the following month.

We do not start shipping the current month’s box until the 5th or 6th of the month, so orders placed between the 1st and 4th will be shipped on the 5th - 6th.

These dates can be affected by weekends, holidays, etc.

You will receive a shipping notification via email when your box has been scanned into the postal system.

Regular monthly shipments are made around the 5th-6th of the month. Billing for recurring subscriptions happens on the 1st of the month.

Example: You are billed on April 1st for the April box, which ships the around April 5-6.

Please note that monthly Canadian boxes usually 4-5 days after the U.S. boxes.

All normal memberships renew by default.

Gift subscriptions do not renew by default.

If you are on a month-to-month subscription you can skip a month by logging into your account, then clicking EDIT under 'Your Subscriptions', then click the button that says 'Skip Next Renewal'.

If you are on a longer term subscription, please contact us to skip a month.

Yes. We also offer bi-monthly and tri-monthly subscription options. 

If you are on a Monthly Membership plan you can login to your account, click 'EDIT' under 'Your Subscription(s)' and click SKIP NEXT RENEWAL.

Cancelling your membership is easy and if you have any questions please contact us for help. 

When you cancel your membership, this means no future renewals will take place. Cancelling does not prevent shipments you have already paid for.

Example 1:  Cancelling a Monthly Membership
You signed up for a Monthly membership for $25.  A day or so later, you cancel.  In this case you have not been refunded and your shipment has not been cancelled. You have been billed for 1 box and you will be shipped 1 box.  Since you cancelled your membership, you will not be billed again or shipped anything again. 

Example 2: Cancelling a 3-Month. 6-Month, or 12-Month Membership
You signed for a 6-Month membership at $127.50.  At some point, whether it be a day later or 3 months later, you cancel.  You have still been billed for a full 6-month membership and you are still going to receive all 6 months worth of tea.  Cancelling only prevents your membership from renewing when the membership cycle is complete. 

Example 3: Cancelling on the 1st of the month
Your account just renewed. You login and cancel. This
does not undo the renewal that was just processed. Please contact us if you’d like to cancel and refund the shipments generated by the renewal. This is not something you can do from within your account.

CANCELLATION POLICY: If you purchase a 6-month subscription and decide to cancel after 2 months, and you do not want any more boxes and ask for your money back, you will be refunded at the rate of a Monthly subscription.

Gift subscriptions

Gift subscriptions work the same way as Normal subscriptions, except for a few minor details.

By default, gift subscriptions do not renew. If you purchase a 3-month gift subscription, it will automatically expire after the 3 months are up.

This can be changed on the checkout page by clicking the box that says “Automatically renew this subscription.“

The account is owned by the gift purchaser. The gift recipient does not have their own account., however they can still customize their boxes.

Gift accounts have some limited functionality compared to normal accounts. If you would like to renew your gift account, please contact us.

Yes they can. Please make sure to include their email address in the gift recipient section of the checkout page. 

Gift recipients cannot customize their first box (because in most cases it's a surprise), but the gift purchaser can do it for them after checkout. 

Yes you can. All gift messages are automatically sent via email when the first box of the subscription is scanned into the postal system.

Billing

When you sign up for Tea Runners you are billed right away. The ship date of your first box will always be displayed on the checkout page at the time of your purchase. The shipment date of your first box will be indicated on the sign-up page for that box. 

Regular monthly shipments are made around the 5th-6th of the month. Billing for renewals is done of the 1st of the month.

For example, if you are signed up for a monthly recurring membership, you will be billed on March 1st for the March box.

About the Tea

Questions about the tea itself.

Every box comes with 4 pouches of tea and each pouch contains roughly 0.75 - 1.2 oz of tea (depending on the weight and bulkiness of the tea).  Each box contains enough tea to make about 30-40 cups of tea, depending on the types of tea and how strong you like it. You can also steep most of these teas more than once, so realistically you could stretch it to 50+ cups of tea. 

Almost all of our teas are USDA Certified Organic when we buy them from our suppliers. However, we cannot label them as USDA Certified Organic unless each tea is individually certified for Tea Runners.  We ship up to 16 different teas a month and approval for each tea can take weeks, so it doesn't fit very easily with our tight deadlines for packaging and production. 

In short, most our teas are organic but our business model makes it very hard to get the certification on our label. 

We also manage to get our hands on top quality Chinese teas that were never intended for the US market and, therefore, never bother with USDA certification. 

In general, tea that is properly stored has a long shelf life. Some teas are definitely better when freshest, however others may taste better with age (black teas in particular).

We put best by dates on our packaging for each tea. For our pure teas, we put "packaged on" dates on our pouches because it will never truly expire.

In general, pure teas usually have a shelf life of 2-3 years. Blended teas (depending on the ingredients) are also usually good for 2 years. Flavored teas have a little less shelf life, but in general they will be good for up to 1 year.

Make sure to store your teas in a cool, dark, dry place for best shelf life. Properly stored teas will be good for a very long time.

We have over 300 teas on our roster and not every tea is always in stock, but you can sign up to be instantly notified via email or text when a tea becomes available. 

Shipping

The following information applies to our subscription boxes only, not to our web store.

Shipping is FREE to all United States addresses (including overseas military addresses) for our subscription boxes. We use USPS First Class Mail and your box should arrive within 1-3 days once scanned by USPS.  You will received a tracking link via email.

Shipping is ship FREE for our subscription boxes to all Canadian addresses. We ship Lettermail via Canada Post from Delta, British Columbia. Delivery times range from 4-6 days to western Canadian provinces, and 9-12 days to eastern Canadian provinces.  (Please note shipping times may vary due to covid-19.) Tracking is not available for Canadian subscription boxes. 

Yes we do.  Add $8 per box for shipping to anywhere else in the world. We ship internationally via USPS. Tracking is available to the following countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Great Britain, Greece, Hong Kong, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.

*Please note due to Covid-19,  shipping delays may occur.  We cannot guarantee delivery times, though most customers are reporting 2-3 weeks til arrival. 

About our web store

We have a web store (at shop.tearunners.com) where you can buy more of the teas you loved from our subscription box. We generally add teas to our store 2-3 weeks after shipping them our subscription boxes.

All shipping for our web store orders come from Portland, Oregon. We offer FREE SHIPPING on orders over $29 to the United States only (sorry Canada).

If ordering from outside of the United States, your order may be subject to additional taxes upon entering your country.

USMCA, which replaced NAFTA on 1 July 2020, allows for orders from the USA to Canada to have no duty charged on orders less than $150.
