Lapsang Souchong is a famous black tea made by withering tea leaves over open fires of fresh pine logs, creating a distinctive smoky flavor.
This particular Lapsang is somewhere between medium and heavily smoked, but not so smoked so that you can't taste the flavors of its delicious base black tea.
For some, all they will taste is the smoke, whereas others will enjoy a vast array of taste profiles as they sip this tea.
We also offer Imperial Grade Lapsang Souchong, a higher grade version of this tea from the same tea producers. The Imperial Grade version, which is twice the price, goes through a series of lighter smoking sessions, slowly building a flavor profile to the producer's exact specifications. By comparison, it is much less smokey that this lot, with a much more delicate balance of flavors.
